Pine Ridge Project, South Dakota
Help us provide much needed housing in the USA’s poorest county!

Pine Ridge Reservation, home of the Lakota Nation, is a place of extreme poverty. The need for housing there is huge. House Alive intends to build a small natural home for a family of tribal members this summer, but we need your help! We have a goal of raising $15,000 to pay for the material costs of the building (this is about $25/square foot, very inexpensive by conventional building standards!).
How you can help…
1) Money! Please consider a generous donation to make this project a reality. You can donate with a credit card (PayPal) by clicking the “Donate” button above. Or you can donate by check. Make your check out to: House Alive! and send it to: House Alive Pine Ridge Project, 7540 Griffin Lane, Jacksonville, OR. Thanks in advance for your support!
2) Skills! We are also looking for carpenters, electricians, plasterers and natural builders to help us complete the project in August. If you can donate your time, we invite you to come join us in South Dakota to help bring the project to a successful close. We will be hosting a 2-week volunteer period, from August 14th to the 28th. If you are interested in joining us during this time, please e-mail coenraad.
3) Materials! If you live within a couple of hours of Pine Ridge or Southern Oregon and have access to free or low cost building materials, let us know! In particular we’re looking for: Windows, doors, dimensional lumber, metal roofing, insulation, electric wire, and straw bales.
4) Music! We would love to have some musicians come by during the project and play for us, especially during the volunteer week in August. Contact coenraad for more information.
