Here the straw is chopped with a leaf mulcher. A weed wacker in a trashcan does the trick as well. You can also do it by hand with a sharp machette on a block of wood. After the straw has been chopped, it still often needs to be screened if you are planning on using it for an earthen floor or plaster.
